VBT Helps BDK Share the Teaching of the Buddha

On November 7 & 8, 2011, members of the VBT volunteered their time to help our friends from BDK (Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai ―Society for the Promotion of Buddhism) in their efforts to place copies of the ―Teaching of the Buddha‖ in hotel rooms across BC.

With the help of VBT member, Keith Tsukishima, and his associate, James Chase, the CEO of the BC Hotels Association, BDK was donated a booth at the 2011 BC Hospitality Trade Show and Convention. This was the second year in a row The VBT and BDK worked together to participate in this hoteliers convention. The team was successful in signing-up hoteliers to place hundreds more copies in their hotel rooms across BC and Western Canada. Now even more travellers have access to Buddha readings in their hotel rooms.

Paramount to this project was VBT member Nori Sugimoto, who volunteered many hours over several months to liaise with BDK offices in Toronto and San Francisco to organize this two day event. She, along with Keith Tsukishima, Dave and Monica Ohori, Lorna and Brad Bishop, Joanne Yuasa, Greg Chor and Aoki Sensei gave time to man the booth at the convention, answering people’s questions and signing-up interested hoteliers.

In 2011, BDK has donated thousands of dollars to VBT for resources and efforts assisting in the distribution of the very familiar orange book, ―The Teachings of the Buddha. This project is a prime example of ways the VBT and its members are actively helping to spread the dharma and share the joy of the teachings with the general public.
