Lecture on Friday, July 9 at VBT

The Vancouver Buddhist Temple is pleased to welcome back Reverend Masumi Kikuchi, of Ryukoku University, Kyoto, Japan. On Friday, July 9, starting at 7pm, Rev. Kikuchi will be giving a talk entitled "Myokonin: Way of Life as Nembutsu Followers".

In Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, ministers and the ordained are not the only people who can teach us the Dharma and help us see the compassion of Amida Buddha...

From within the history of Jodo Shinshu, there are recorded stories and anecdotes about a group of extraordinary people called "Myokonin". These people had an astonishingly deep understanding of the Nembutsu teaching. This fact alone may not be particularly noteworthy, except for the fact that these people, everything about them in harmony with the Nembutsu teaching, were often un-educated, simple people; farmers, wood-cutters, peasants, and the like.

Please join us to learn more about the Myokonin, and hear about the extraordinary things they can teach us about the wisdom and compassion of Amida Buddha.

There is parking underground (accessible from Powell Street), and light refreshments will be served
