New Year's Eve Bell-Ringing Service at the UBC Asian Studies Centre
Vancouver Buddhist Temple has been hosting this annual event for over 15 years at the UBC Asian Studies Centre. This traditional event is observed to express gratitude for the past year and the bell ringing ceremony represents the symbolic ringing away of man’s 108 passions. It is a reminder of the need to free ourselves from self-centeredness as we face the New Year.
The Bell-ringing service, officiated by Vancouver Buddhist Temple Resident Minister, Rev. Tatsuya Aoki, will begin at 11:30pm. Following the service, Ama-zake, a traditional warm, malted-rice drink will be served.
For those of you who missed the opportunity to buy the famous VBT Manju at the Powell Street Festival, the waiting is (almost) over!
The doors to our Temple's Social Hall will open at Noon on Sunday, October 25 for our Fall Bazaar.
Featured will be another VBT traditional dish, Udon! You will also find an assortment of rolled Sushi, Chicken Karaage and Teriyaki, and of course, the Manju!
